The various plants designed to produce fine chemicals that are needed for the petrochemical and chemical industry

Biorefinery Basic Design
Needs
The needs of client (GS Caltex) were as follows
  • Developing and scaling up the world’s first bio-butanol production process with solid handling, microbial reaction system, membrane separation and sulfuric acid treatment from lab-experiment data and pilot plant operation data.
  • Maximization of energy efficiency in the pilot-scale and demo-scale plant for the project economics
Problems
Some problems came out as we tried to meet client's needs
  • Making unstable and intermittent batch process into continuous process
  • Finding scale-up parameter in various system
  • Operation and maintenance of Biomass handling system
  • Material corrosion caused by sulfuric acid in Pretreating system
Solutions
In order to solve the problems and to meet the client's needs, EZER performed the following works as below
  • Setting scale-up parameters through operation data gathering of the pliot plant
  • Scaling up and scheduling multiple batch process into stable continuous process
  • Selecting Material resistant to Sulfuric acid
  • Changing optimum operating condition through the simulation model for energy saving
  • Rearrangement of HX with pinch study and simulation modeling for energy saving
